SPINARRI AutoSkewers: Making Your Barbecue ‘Hands-Free’

Every so often I come across a great idea that makes me immediately wonder why it hasn’t been done before. It also makes me kick myself because I’d never thought of it, especially as some of them go on to make millions. The SPINARRI AutoSkewers could well be one of those successes, and while it’s such a simple idea it could well change the way you barbecue.

The makers of this genius invention have begun raising money to fund full manufacture of the product; doing so through everyone’s favourite crowd funding website, Kickstarter. They’re looking for £8,800 to put their dream into action, and with £2,756 raised with 21 days to go it looks like they’re well on their way to reaching their goal. You only need £1 to put down a minimum pledge, but first let’s take a look at the reasons why you should think about doing so.

SPINARRI AutoSkewers: Making Your Barbecue ‘Hands-Free’

SPINARRI Autoskewers are a range of self-rotating skewers that can be placed on your existing gas BBQ grill. It was born from seeing a cooking method on a ‘beautiful Mediterranean island’ where food could be cooked using a unique hands-free method. Kebabs, sovlaki and more could all be prepared by using multiple skewers over charcoal, and using a motor to rotate them for the spinning action required to cook them thoroughly. By applying this to a modern gas cooking setting the company hopes this will mean less time slaving over a grill and more time spent entertaining with friends and family.

Although they’ve gone through many prototypes in order to realise the dream, the latest version – patent pending – looks the business. Each SPINARRI will be laser cut and hand crafted, with seven pounds of premium grade 304 stainless steel making up the structure and skewers, plus hand finished wooden handles to finish off the skewers. Of course, apperances don’t matter if it doesn’t do the job, but we’re being assured that it ‘produces succulent results’ and the turning action of the skewers allows the food to baste in its own juices. It’s also been tested in winter, so that’s winter barbecuing firmly on the list!

By contributing to the Kickstarter campaign you’ll be helping them to locally outsource a few of the hand-made parts, while also reducing costs by allowing them to purchase stainless steel in large quantities. As with any Kickstarter campaign there are a number of rewards given based on the amount of pledge. So, while pledging £1-£19 will get you a “thanks’, pledging £169 or more will get you a SPINARRI with 2 skewers.

The SPINARRI is intended to be shipped worldwide too, not just the USA and Canada, so we in the UK can get the full benefits of trying one out. However, you will have to pay additional charges for international shipping.

We think it sounds like a great idea, so we’re happy to support it here on the BBQ Barbecues blog. If you want to know more details about the product – including specifications and construction details – just click here to get to the projects Kickstarter page. You can also follow them on Facebook.
