Yemeni Brazilian Indian artist Bernard Rangel takes a halt at TeaSmith, a sleek Tea Bar in Spitalfields. His first solo exhibition in London resides in the Gallery @ TeaSmith. Statkraft to invest £400m in Scots wind farm plan
Statkraft, Europe's largest generator of renewable energy, has said it is ready to invest more than £400m in Scotland. The Norwegian state-owned group is involved in seven onshore wind farm projects in the UK, five of them in Scotland, and is part of the Forewind consortium with Scottish & Southern Energy bidding to generate wind power offshore. Four decades of Norway’s oil industry
A letter from the Norwegian Geological Survey made the position clear in a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1958: "The chances of finding coal, oil or sulphur on the NCS can be disounted". Norway looked unlikely to ever become an oil nation. Read more |

Stricter restrictions on ship ballast
From the new year Norway will require that all larger ships will have to empty their ballast water tanks a minimum of 200 nautical miles from Norwegian shores, Aftenposten reports. Read more |

Commission adopts template for National Renewable Energy Action Plans
The Commission adopted today a decision establishing a template for National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs) as required by the recent Renewable Energy Directive. The template will guide Member States in the elaboration of their Renewable Energy Action Plan and detail their strategies for reaching their 2020 renewable energy targets. Each Member State must submit a NREAP to the Commission by 30 June 2010 at the latest. Read more |

Commission welcomes industry's commitment to provide a common charger for mobile phones
Incompatibility of chargers for mobile phones is a major inconvenience for users and also leads to unnecessary waste. Therefore, the Commission has requested industry to come forward with a voluntary commitment to solve this problem so as to avoid legislation. As a result major producers of mobile phones have agreed to harmonise chargers in the EU. Read more |

European Union rules governing the size and shape of many fruit and vegetables will cease to exist tomorrow when specific marketing standards for 26 types of fruit and vegetables are repealed. Commission calls for Smoke Free Europe by 2012
The European Commission adopted today, after extensive consultation, a proposal for a Council Recommendation calling on all Member States to bring in laws to protect their citizens from exposure to tobacco smoke by 2012. Football: Tromsoe won at home
