The Council of the European Union adopts oil stocks directive
The Council has adopted a directive requiring member states to maintain minimum stocks of oil or petroleum products. The directive, which is to replace all existing Community legislation in this field intended to improve the functioning of current EU oil stocks mechanisms, so as to ensure the availability of oil in the event of a crisis. The Council of the European Union adopts new legislation against ship-source pollution
The Council has adopted a directive improving current rules on ship-source pollution and on the introduction of penalties for infringements. The new provisions aim at improving maritime safety and enhancing protection of the marine environment from pollution by ships. Read more |

Intellectual Property Rights: Commission comes forward with practical, non-legislative measures to combat counterfeiting and piracy
The European Commission has adopted a Communication on enhancing the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the internal market. The Communication sets out a series of practical initiatives to respond to the dramatic and damaging effect that counterfeiting and piracy is having on EU economies and on society in general. Company taxation: The European Commission proposes a revised Code of Conduct for applying the Arbitration Convention to improve prevention of double taxation
The EU Commission has adopted a Communication based on the work achieved by the EU Joint Transfer Pricing Forum. The Commission and the Forum consider that the elimination of double taxation linked to transfer pricing adjustments is facilitated by constant monitoring of problems occurring in practice. Single Euro Payments Area : Commission presents actions to make SEPA a success
The European Commission has adopted a Communication on Completing SEPA: a Roadmap for 2009-2012 in response to the Communication on 'Driving European recovery'. The Single Euro Payment Area, or SEPA, is an initiative of the European banking and aims at creating an integrated market for electronic payment services in euros, with harmonised sets of business rules and technical standards. Climate change: Commission sets out global finance blueprint for ambitious action by developing nations
The European Commission has put forward a blueprint for scaling up international finance to help developing countries combat climate change. EU newspapers record worst-ever drop in ad revenue
Advertising revenue is in free-fall at European newspapers, which have seen a sharp decrease in their advertising income in the last two months: the worst in the industry's history.
